CROSSBEARER
A collection of singular pieces, each whispering its own narrative.

Personal project
The eight unique artworks under the title 'Cross Bearer' tell the story of women who have grown up within a Christian context. In Christianity, the man is the head of the family. God is a man in heaven; he has a son who represents male leadership. In strict Christian communities, the church pastor is a man, and the elders and deacons are men as well. This situation means that if you are born a girl in the community, you don't see visible strong female role models. Growing up within a religion is an imprint on your being, even if this religion doesn't resonate with you, if you can't identify with your role as a woman within this context. The artworks 'Cross Bearer' are about women who have detached themselves from the Christian religion. These artworks depict different women—intelligent women, sometimes with a sharp gaze, others with a dreamy look. Religious symbols subtly shine through the skins of their faces; they carry this with them.
